The frantic city awarded this year for trying to improve its citizens’ life style is London: one of the World icons for its high speed. Particularly, the inhabitants of the London Borough Hackney will be awarded for the wide range of social activities with the aim of promoting social cohesion, which requires time and attention towards the many souls of a community. Since London is increasing its cycling paths for the Olympic Games 2012, the prize will be an upside down mileometre “P(e)ace-Rider” designed by Francesco Argenti, carried out by Gandonlab (for the electronical part) and La Soaza cabinet-making. It starts ringing when you exceed 9 miles on your bicycle. In this way, cyclists will be able to show their respect towards the community, and in particular towards pedestrians.
The group Ensemble il Demetrio is giving you a taste of Italian music in The Italian Music Gems on 28th and 31st March 2012 for the Global Day of Slow Living Week. Cecilia Bernini (as mezzo-soprano), Maurizio Schiavo (at the violin) and Ugo Nastrucci (at the tiorba) are performing on music written by A. Steffani, G. Bononcini, A. Marcello, A. Caldara, A. Scarlatti, D. Scarlatti.
You can see the Ensemble il Demetrio playing at Dalston Library on 28th March at 5:00 p.m. and at West Norwood at 8:00 p.m.
Thanks to Sarah Coursey, Tessa Watt and Slow Down London, the Art of Slow Living will partecipate to the West Norwood Slow Food Festival to celebrate the Global Day of Slow Living Week in London.

Here we are: back from London, where we are organizing the Slow Living Week events. This is the state of art of our project, which will take place in the borough of Hackney and in other London quarters at the end of March 2012.
We met three Hackney Council officers, representative of Jules Pipe, Hackney Mayor, who have appreciated the idea of awarding Hackney people for their engagement in promoting the social and cultural cohesion. The Hackney Council put us in touch with a network of operators whose aim is to improve the citizens life quality. This is how we came across Mary Murray, Brian and Yvonne, members of the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden – a community garden in the heart of Hackney, who might organize the Food Growers Network Party on 1st April (it’s not a joke!).
We also met Seema Patel, a volunteer of the Hackney Tree Nursery Forest Garden, who let us visit this wonderful place.
Thanks to the cooperation of the Hackney Council Staff, we are in touch with many associations in Hackney, to organize events during the Slow Living Days at the end of March 2012.
The World Day of Slow Living is an important moment for people, associations, and institutions to share a reflection on slowing down for a better life and as an act of kindness towards themselves, others and the environment. It is made up of some small or big events built in a creative, spontaneous and generous way. The World Day of Slow Living strength lays in the energy of a collective action.
